Tales from Brierybank is a series of four books of stories chosen for
their nostalgic quality. They are selections of animal stories, folk
tales and fairy tales from all over the world, and have a charming
traditional feel. They are great for reading aloud to younger
children, or for children who are just beginning to read on their
own with a little help from an adult or older child.

With large clear type and attractive line drawings, the stories
in this series of early readers are perfect for meeting the needs
of youngsters 5+, and are suitable for Key Stage 1 (5–7 years
old). They provide a middle ground between picture books and
longer “proper” books. These tales are accessible for those who
are already fluent readers, and also for those starting to read with
assistance from an adult, and they are great shared as read-aloud
stories for the family.

The stories in each book are easily understood in terms of both concept and
language. Familiar vocabulary at an appropriate level is used
throughout, and words are easy to decode, are repeated, and easy
to read. Illustrations support the text and the longer stories are
divided into short “chapters” like a proper book. Achieving success

and the enjoyment experienced leads to a lifelong love of reading.
